- Karl Walker: Team Leader             - Alice Neeman: Pilot and Engineer

- Brian Carson: Combat Tactician   - Ishiro Takarada: Combat / Science

- Katherine Petrov: Tech Expert      - Klaus Emmerich: Physicist

Rain fell heavily as a blanket of moody grey clouds covered the vast mountain ranges in the wilderness of Eastern Serbia. One of the MFD’s tilt rotor helicopters shuddered against the winds but Neeman and her co-pilot a young woman named Maria Valkova had it under control she looked back into the passenger bay “We’re almost there so we won’t have to deal with this weather for much longer” Walker shot her a thumbs up, she turned back at looked to Valkova who responded “Wherever it is that we are actually going to” Neeman faced the rain “You can say that again” they continued handling the controls to ease the flight.

In the passenger bay Walker had his whole team deployed but his eye quickly glanced to the new addition on board, the man was sat on the opposite side a couple of seats away from the others, he had his reading glasses resting on the bridge of his nose and was writing into a tattered notebook. The man was Dr Klaus Emmerich a physician from Germany, he was well known throughout the scientific community many claiming to be one of the greatest minds over the past two decades. Walker and the team came across Emmerich after he had sought them out after Gigarrah’s resurgence in Hong Kong, claiming to know how to kill the infamous monster MFD security immediately took him to a safe facility for extensive questioning, however he requested that he would only speak to Walker after many months of attempts to question him and rigorous background checks to find any trace of dirt he was finally granted his request. When Walker was brought in from the recovery mission of the Sheung Wan district to speak to Emmerich his only response was a set of coordinates, the location they where heading to now. Carson saw Walker watching the middle aged scientist and leaned over to speak “Karl can we trust him?” Walker tilted his head to reply but kept his eyes firmly on Emmerich “He said that he had a way to kill Gigarrah” Carson retorted quickly “I know isn’t that a little weird that this guy just happens to be there when Gigarrah attacked and now claims he has a solution, we have no idea where he is taking us for months intelligence agents had him a room thinking he might be linked as some sort of titan fanatic and he remained quiet until he saw you, what if it’s a trap?” Walker turned to Carson with a raised eyebrow “And do what, have us strapped to a table with a laser beam if we refuse to talk?” Carson continued “Joke all you want but we know nothing about this guy and we are just blindly following his orders” Walker gave a slight shrug “Well how about this we reach this location and the second that it appears dodgy I will grant you permission to shoot him” Carson smiled raising his hands “It’s all I’m asking, is a plan B option” the two of them laughed under their breath to avoid Emmerich hearing.

Neeman struggled to see through the rain which kept her alert in case a mountain should suddenly appear from nowhere, she looked to the navigation readings they were almost at the coordinates given by the doctor. Eventually through the haze another range of mountains materialised this seemed to be the location she shouted back to the others “Guys I think we are here”, upon hearing her Emmerich stood up from his seat and stumbled his way towards the cockpit Walker looked quickly to Carson “Don’t shoot him yet” he too got up from his seat and followed after the doctor. Emmerich held onto the back of Neeman’s seat and saw the mountains getting closer “Excellent now between those two peaks you should see a ridge on the third peak with an opening to a hangar bay” Neeman flew them passed the first two peaks then spotted the third one she pointed “There I see it” the tilt rotor pitched to go down and made its way through the opening to the hangar.

Inside was dilapidated, metal cross beams had fallen and rain water was coming in from cracks in the rock up above navigating the debris the rotor made a safe landing. Walker spoke to Emmerich “Now will you tell us why we are here?” Emmerich nodded “I will but once we get inside I promise you” Emmerich went back into the passenger bay to collect his stuff Walker and Neeman gave each other a cautious look, as Walker left Neeman got up from her seat “Check over the engines and the fuel lines make sure everything is ready for when we need to leave this place” Valkova nodded “Yes Ma’am” Neeman followed after Walker to get ready.

The bay door opened and Carson stepped out first he was cautious and armed with an AR15 CQR assault rifle which was standard issue for the MFD team members, Carson gripped tightly to the rifle’s foregrip and aimed the flashlight which was mounted on the right siderail he looked around at the battered remains of the hangar he shouted to his team mates still onboard the rotor “All clear” Ishiro came down he too armed with the same style assault rifle then followed by Walker and Dr Emmerich then Kit and Neeman, they wandered across the hangar and towards a large metal door which was partially open and entered the base.

Deep inside the team navigated through empty rooms and abandoned labs, Walker spoke to Dr Emmerich as they walked “So what was this for?” Dr Emmerich replied “It was through private funding but the men and women along with my Father were a collective of researchers and scientists from all across the world, after the Second World War and then during the Cold War they wanted to find an alternative energy source so we were no longer relying on the destructive power of nuclear energy” Walker glanced at all the delipidated hallways “Is this what caused the base to be evacuated?” Dr Emmerich shook his head “No…this was caused by something else”. Going further and further into the ruins of the facility they eventually came upon a massive room that was completely exposed to the outside world, it looked like there had been some kind of explosion which had just ripped through everything and out to the sky above them. The team shone the lights around looking at the gaping wound in the mountain Walker looked to Dr Emmerich “Alright Dr, what the hell is this place?” Dr Emmerich knew this place from what he found out from his father all those decades ago, he turned to Walker “Agent Walker all legends have origins a real truth behind the myth, flesh and blood ascended into an immortal pantheon…this my friend, is where Gigarrah was born” Walker couldn’t comprehend what he had just heard, he struggled to find words after a minute he croaked out “What did you just say?!”. Emmerich nodded “Yes, here in this facility” Kit responded “Wait are you telling me that a bunch of scientists back in the 60’s created Gigarrah?!” Emmerich gave a reassuring smile but also shook in head “Not quite, although he arrived in this facility Gigarrah was born not from this world” Kit replied again “Wait…do you mean like an alien entity?” “Actually an interdimensional entity to be precise” the team was stunned at what they were hearing, Emmerich knew he would have to explain more for them to understand “It’s confusing I know but let me tell you what my father wrote in his journals it explains everything” he pulled the notebook from his bag.

Harold Emmerich sat in the chopper which made its way towards the facility’s hangar, when it touch down Harold exited carrying a suitcase and made his way inside. The interior was decorated with crisp white panels a fitting choice for a laboratory and research facility, Harold passed through the guarded checkpoint at the entrance giving them polite nods as he passed them by along with a casual “Good morning”. The polished shoes tapped against the grey tiled floor until Harold reached his office, the light switch illuminated the room revealing it filled with many comforts from home, mostly books which filled three bookcases and many trinkets and oddities that had a touch of Harold’s personality. Harold placed the suitcase on the desk and clicked open the locks then lifted the case’s lid, in the case was numerous scraps of paper covered in scribbles of different formula’s and equations he muttered to himself “I really must clear this out one day…eventually” as he sorted through the mess he took out his journal and then spotted something that he didn’t expect. He pulled out a book, holding it up Harold saw that it was an old story book “The Fractured King”, The Fractured King was a fictional story about a knight fighting a monster it was one of Harold’s favourite books and he was supposed to read to his son when he got home, he placed the book on the desk with the intention of reading it, Harold was going to be there for several weeks so he needed something to keep himself entertained.

As he emptied the case there was a knock on the door, looking up he saw William a British physicist who gave him a smile “Good morning Harold” Harold gave a nod “Morning William” the man wandered into Harold’s office “How was the flight in?” Harold replied “Weather was good today so was very smooth, how have things been here?” William sat in the chair in front of the desk “Well I have some great news my friend…we are ready” Harold looked to his colleague with disbelief “Are you serious? But Sawyer said it wouldn’t be ready for another 24 months” William nodded in agreement “We all thought that, but Markov and his team did astounding work over the spring and the equations and formulas all check out and we will be ready to test the rings in two days” Harold clapped his hands together and smiled beaming with excitement “This is incredible William, this could change the world as we know it”

Present Day

Walker and the team stood listening to Emmerich reading from the journal, Carson interjected “So what was it that they had built here? You said they were looking into alternate energy sources” Emmerich glanced up from the pages of the book “Yes, the facility was using intersecting storage rings” Kit spoke upon hearing the method “They planned on colliding proton beams” Ishiro queried “What does that do?” Kit then explained “Think of a super collider the intersecting rings are used to collide protons, if the collision is successful then it can create the possibility of new energy waves or particles” Emmerich was impressed “She is right if a powerful but safer option was to be discovered then the world would have no longer the need for nuclear energy”. Walker looked at the facility that they were stood in and stared at the massive gash in the ceiling “Then why did you bring us here? If everything is gone and the machine is destroyed I don’t think we can get much use out of it” Emmerich stepped towards Walker “Yes the machine is useless but that is not why I brought you here, there is something kept down in the depths of this place that we need, come now follow me” he turned about and headed out of the room with the others following, Carson stood next to Walker “This is getting more funky as it goes on” Walker glanced to Carson “Keep your sidearm ready…just in case” the two then followed after the group.

Moving carefully through the hallways only the beams from the flashlights could cut through the eerie darkness, they passed by labs with papers strewn all over the floors and blackboards still had equations scribbled across them Kit and Neeman entered one shining their lights across the room taking things in, Neeman spoke “Why was this privately funded? Something like this the world would have benefited from government funding” Emmerich spoke from the doorway as the others checked out other rooms “Would you expect every government in a time were everyone had their finger on the triggers to cooperate willingly together, there would have been secrets on all sides and this was a place to build a world of peace, any military involvement would risk whatever discoveries were made here to be potentially weaponised…splitting the atom is a prime example of the unfortunate fate when science opens Pandora’s box just that little bit too far” Neeman looked at Emmerich but even with her military background she couldn’t help but agree with him “So what is it we need to find?” he replied “Somewhere here is a vault that contains specimens from the day that they encountered the creature, if it’s still there then we have our chance” Neeman and Kit followed him out of the room to regroup with the others. Kit had hold of a dirtied piece of paper looking at a diagram of the intersecting rings “If it’s alright I would like to see the machine” Walker continued walking but spoke over his shoulder “I don’t think we will have the chance” Emmerich saw the diagram “Actually Agent Walker it will be en route to the vault” Walker nodded to Kit with a slight smirk “Alright then Kit”. Kit spoke to Emmerich with curiosity “What does the journal say about the proton collision test?” Emmerich took out the book to find the entry.

1968

The whole facility was active with anticipation, years of hard work had gone into this project and now was the day to begin the test of the ISRs, Harold was looking over the formulas which several other technicians one of them seemed on edge “So what do you think, everyone says the numbers look solid for today but I still wanted your opinion when you arrived” Harold’s eyes skimmed across the board nodding repeatedly to himself, after checking everything he turned to the other two “Everything is good, we are fully capable of test fire today” the two scientist sighed with smiled at the final confirmation “ they left the room to head to the ISR chamber.

Technicians were moving around the machine checking every connection and power supply, the room was massive and the ring looked more like a room filled with computer servers with connecting tube and pipes, in the centre was the two synchrotron rings which sat resting on top of each other to allow the particles to pass between both of them, around the rings were massive electromagnets that would help to focus the particle beams to produce the collisions they needed, the impressive structure would have certainly put the 1956 ISR at CERN to shame with its size. Harold arrived at the control room where he found William stood next to several other men and women, Harold approached them with a great feeling of anxious exhilaration “Well how are things looking?” Markov gave him a grin “Eager to begin the test and finally see if all of our work for so many years will finally pay off” another man spoke with heavy French accent “Do we need to go over everything again to be sure?” Harold waved a hand “Not necessary I’ve just looked at all the notes and formulas, everything is ready to go” Markov smiled “That settles it, if you say we are ready then we are all set” the scientists separated to take up positions at consoles or standing by the viewing window. Harold stepped up to the large pane of glass and looked out down to the room below, so many years of work had gone into this moment this was the beginning of a new world with a brighter future, this gathering of nations could be the stepping stone to peaceful resolutions amongst world leaders who seemed to be in a never ending struggle of who was more power, a world that Harold hoped his son would see one day.

The time had come Markov gave a smile to Harold then looked to one of the other technicians who was at the control panel “Alright begin the particle charge” the man nodded and started turning one of the dials “Beginning particle charge” the machinery in the room began to hum in a low continuous drone from the electricity flowing into the collider. No one else dared to speak the anticipation of the experiment was high some of the team felt as if even breathing could bring the whole operation to grind to a halt, Harold leaned over the shoulder of the technician and watched the dials showing the power levels of the collider “Excellent levels are steady, prepare for extraction into the vacuum tubes” the technician flicked several switches which made many red lights buzz to life the technician spoke “Particle beams are now moving around the rings” Harold smiled “Alright, adjust the electromagnets to focus the beams” more switches clicked to increase the levels of power to the electromagnets that were attached around the rings, the humming became a rhythmic whirr along with a pulsing vibration that the team began to feel inside the control room. Harold looked at the readings on the console “Frequency is good and particle fields are switching between positive and negative charges regularly” William moved and stood next to Harold looking out of the window to the collider “We can begin directing the beam to the target zone to perform the collision”.

Moving the beams to the target zone was were the ISR would have the particles collide with each other and the information would be sent to the computer to be studied over and looked at to see what has been produced. The humming was happening so fast now it was almost back to being a continuous drone, one of the technicians was watching the computer screen “We have successful collisions, receiving the data now” Markov moved over from the group and joined William to glance at the computer he smiled “This is incredible, absolutely incredible” he looked to Harold with pride and then to the others who began celebrating and shaking hands but the technician at the computer noticed something “Um there seems to be an increase in some sort of energy” Harold stepped from the window and joined Markov and the technician at the computer “What kind of energy?” the technician spoke “I’m not sure, I thought it was some sort of radiation caused by the particles colliding but this one is unrecognisable and the levels are rising rapidly” the French man Leon spoke with concern “Should we be concerned?” Harold was silent watching the energy gauge start to fluctuate “I’m not sure”.

There was a loud crackle and snap coming from collider room, Harold moved from the computer and toward the window, on the right side of the room red flickers of lightning sparked out from what seemed like out of thin air, they were only slightly but growing more intently Harold reached over to an intercom that was linked to the collider “Everyone clear the room now! Get out of there!” those that were inside the room to maintain the ISRs suddenly moved quickly to the exits to leave. A bolt of lightning struck the railing right outside the control room Harold looked to the technicians “We need to power down” Markov put his hands up in objection “Wait, we can’t do it now we have gotten so much from it already” Harold wasn’t willing to take the risk “We don’t know what this is, we need to power down now!” A woman named Nina nodded and agreed with Harold’s decision she also spoke with a British accent “He’s right, William shut it down now” William nodded and stepped quickly towards the power box and turned the red dial which was the emergency power shut off. With a click the power was cut off and the hum of the collider faded to silence but the room was still filled with sounds of crackling coming the source of the strange of electrical disturbance, which was becoming more erratic. Harold was watching what was beginning to appear before him, the space of air was rippling where the lightning was being produced, a sudden flash of light made Harold flinch making him shield his eyes with his arm. The control room was bathed with flickering red light, Harold lowered his arm and gazed out through the window, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, beyond the window was what looked like a tear floating in mid-air a split in the very fabric of reality.

Harold stood in awe looking at the crimson anomaly pulsating like a glitch on a tv screen, what power was this that could defy nature and the laws of physics? Markov also had question after question rolling through his mind words slipped through his lips in a whisper of awe “Beautiful, truly beautiful” as everyone watch the phenomenon slowly began to shrink until eventually with a loud crack it was gone. This was something beyond simple energy resources for a new age, this was beyond everything in the scientific field, no one could imagine this and yet a small few had witnessed something impossible, Harold wanted to understand more of the anomaly and wondered if it was in fact the borders between here and another dimension, soon he would have his question answered.

Present Day

The team stood in the remains of the control room that Emmerich’s father and his team had once stood all those decades ago, Kit moved through the doorway that open onto the walkway surround part of the collider room. The metal was rusted but she tapped her shoe down heavily on the walkway with several bangs echoing out, it seemed steady as she placed her hand on the railing “Holy…shit, it’s incredible” the collider had maintained most of its appearance and shape although there was a lot of structural damage to the right side of the collider “What happened there?” Emmerich came up behind her standing in the doorway “From what my father’s says the damage was caused when Gigarrah came through another tear into his dimension” Neeman looked at the room from the window “Quite small compared to his size, are you sure it was this room?” Emmerich glanced in Neeman’s direction “Yes, he wasn’t always the intimidating size that we all know today” he then looked back out to the collider “Even the vilest creatures of hell have to emerge from somewhere”. Walker wanted to see the room, his steps crunched from fragments of broken glass underfoot, he stared down at the ruined machine a sinking feeling hit him in his gut, it wasn’t every day you see the cradle of a living nightmare.

Carson came up behind Walker and he could tell that his friend was deep in thought, it had been a weird several months, Carson had begun Walker started acting strange after Gigarrah appeared in Japan almost a year and a half ago. Tension was being to increase anyway with world government losing faith with the MFD believing that the study of these colossal animals, titans, mega fauna whatever people called them was not aiding in the prevention of calamities when they decided to roll up to populated areas. Some countries believed that only military engagements was the solution and that was something Walker didn’t believe in, yes they needed help from the military with vehicles and equipment but they required permission to do so and sometimes the military was called to try a deal with a situation on their own, similar to what happened with Thunder Wing and both Carson and Walker remember very well what happened then.

Carson was becoming concerned with the fact that Walker had become obsessed with finding a way to stop Gigarrah when he was always so strong in his believe that these animals needed to be dealt with by keeping them in safe containment where they can live peacefully and away from any human population. With Gigarrah there was hatred and he remembered something that Walker had said back in Hong Kong after the attack “he’s malevolent, an evil force of pure devastation” something had changed in Walker and Carson was worried that this search for an answer was going to consume him. He placed a hand on Walker’s shoulder “Hey Karl…you alright?” Walker glanced over his shoulder as if brought out of a trance when he saw Carson he nodded “Yeah I’m fine, just a lot of information to take in” Carson agreed “This whole thing is unbelievable, I’m looking right at it and I still can’t believe it” Walker knew what he was saying several months ago they had no information about Gigarrah now all of a sudden they knew that he was some creature from another dimension and that it was a man-made experiment that brought him here. Walker looked to the doctor “What happened? On the day of the next experiment?” Emmerich spoke calmly “A monster was born”.

1968

Harold was in his room sat on the couch reading the book that he had brought with him; in the story the knight Gustav Handel had just witnessed the beast Gigarrah murder the King and escape through one of the mirrors in the palace’s grand hall as he was reading three words escaped from his lips that he didn’t realise that he had done “The Devil’s Mirror”. Harold thought about the cracked mirrors in the story then thought about the anomaly they saw in the collider room the other day, although they had planned this project to look for a better choice of renewable energy, but this was something new and as scientists how could they not study it, however they would need to recreate the experiment exactly in hopes of causing another anomaly. He put the book down and got up from the couch and started pacing, the discovery was something that would without doubt the greatest scientific discovery of a lifetime but there was also the ethical ramifications this was altering the state of reality who knows what would happen if they did it again or if it stayed open for an extended period time, but he had already seen that when they powered down the anomaly disappeared so if anything went wrong they would just cut the power until it faded away like last time.

There was a knock on the door and Markov peered from around the other side “Harold, are busy?” Harold turned “No, no my friend please come in” Harold took a seat at his desk as Markov sat in the chair in front of it. There was a moment of silence, but Markov spoke first “What was that Harold?” Harold shook his head “I have never seen anything like that before, it was as if reality had split open it was impossible…but was incredible” Markov smiled hearing his friends words “It was spectacular was it, imagine what we could achieve if we could prove the idea of other dimensions” Harold nodded “I’ve been thinking the same thing Markov, we must continue our research into alternate energies but there’s no reason why we shouldn’t explore the anomaly that occurred since it was a by-product of the collider” Markov agreed “Understandable, do you think it’s possible to be able to cause another anomaly?” Harold wondered then replied “For it to happen once was already something that shouldn’t have, but if we stick to the same readings as what we did that caused the first one then maybe we will see if lightning will strike twice” Markov replied “Do I have you approval to begin prepping the collider for another run?” Harold nodded with enthusiasm “Yes most definitely”. Markov clapped his hands together and smiled “Excellent I will notify the team and we will get started first thing in the morning” he stood up from the chair and after bidding Harold a goodnight he left the room, Harold looked to the copy of his book his curiosity of the events of the past several hours were churning in his mind “Shall we stare into The Devil’s Mirror?”.

The morning had been eventful the entire facility was a swarming hive of eager anticipation in preparing the rings to perform another collision. Harold was in his lab looking over the data from the first test, everything was to be set exactly as it was with the first test with the hope of tempting another anomaly to appear.

In the control room Markov was stood staring out of the observation window at the rings, he turned to the team who were sat at their stations “Are we ready?” one of the scientists spoke out “Yes, everything is set and the beam is ready to fire” Markov nodded in approval as Harold entered the room Markov acknowledged him “Ah Harold I was just about to come and collect you” Harold could sense his colleague’s eagerness for he felt it too “Is everything set?” Markov wandered towards him “Yes, it all should be as it was the other day, once the beam fires we will follow the same methods as we did before” Harold stopped at the window, his stance was rigid he felt tense at the possibility of failure. Like he had told Markov this was like catching lighting in a bottle and they had already done it once, but the team knew what they were doing if they are successful, it will be a miracle, if not then they continue with their original work in trying to change the world for the better.

It was time to try again Harold looked to the technicians who were at the controls “Ok everyone let’s see what happens…begin particle charge” the technicians responded with a nod “Yes sir, beginning particle charge” down below the rings began again to produce the deep constant humming drone of electricity. One of the technicians was monitoring the dials and spoke “Levels are same as before preparing to for particle extraction” she flicked two switches and spoke again “Particles are now moving around the rings” Harold acknowledged with a nod then glanced to the rings, multiple staff and engineers down in the room stood in the opened entrances watching from safe distances should anything go wrong.

Harold waiting for a moment before ordering calmy “Focus the beam” dials were being turned to adjust the electromagnets to change focus the beam and change the charges of the particles, another technician spoke “Recording successful collisions, data is being gathered now” the computers were crackling and buzzing with information as it spilled onto the screens gathering the recordings from the collisions taking place inside the rings.

Everything was as it was before but there was no sign of an anomaly, all staff were silent which made the humming of the machines and the buzzing of computers all the louder. Markov was visibly disappointed “There’s nothing…but we did everything right, just like before” Harold was disappointed as well but he had prepared for there to be no outcome he looked to his friend “We took a chance it’s all we could have done, now we focus on our original work and start analysing the data that we have collected” he moved away from the window and sat at one of the computers with an analyst and began looking over the data, Markov didn’t share the defeated enthusiasm as Harold and left the room to stew in his thoughts of what went wrong.

The rings had powered down and the room was cleared all but those in the observation room examining the results from the collision. Harold was looking at the unknown energy source that occurred during the first collisions, the energy was something completely new and didn’t have a name for the time being Harold wanting to give it something temporary since there was not enough data for a proper discovery. He had an unusual method of remember special notes in his work which was using a note system by referring to items of interest as categories and a number, Harold thought about a number he could use and then circled the new energy signature titling it ‘C295’ in his notebook. He was going to call it a day when one of the technicians call him over “Sir you need to see this!” Harold rose from his chair walking towards where the technician was sat “What’s up?” the technician replied with a tone of caution in his voice “The dials are going crazy there’s an energy spike coming from inside the ISR chamber” Harold was just as confused “But the rings are powered down there’s nothing in that room producing any form of energy” the technician responded “If the rings aren’t producing them then it’s something” the theory was proven with a loud crack and a flash of red coming from the chamber Harold looked up with a jolt.

Red arcs of electricity whipped out from the middle of room as if from the open air, they struck against the walls and metal of the chamber, the emergency alarm rang out. Harold pointed to his team members “Record everything we need as much data on the as we can get” they all nodded and began working, Harold approached the window to watch the red lightning. If there was no power operating the ISRs that meant this was an anomaly forming on its own control and is so what was causing it to form now, the air cracked and tore open the veil of reality was once again split like a wound, the rooms bathed in a red glow which pulsed and flickered. Markov barged into the observation room after hearing the emergency alarms blaring out “What is happening?!” Harold turned to him and pointed out of the window “The anomaly has appeared again!” Markov could see it and slowly approached in utter awe of it “Did you fire the rings again?” Harold shook his head “No this anomaly is completely self-sustained, it’s as if it activated all on its own” Markov looked at Harold “That can’t be possible if we didn’t cause it to open…” he turned back to the crimson anomaly as Harold finished his friend’s sentence “Then what did?”.

The anomaly continued to spit out bolts of lightning randomly, the very room trembled from the force it was making just to exist in our dimension, however from within something was stirring, writhing, the surface of the breach was like a very thin translucent skin, the large, clawed hand pressed against it causing it stretch and tighten.

Markov saw the shape and gasped “Christ almighty what in the hell is that?!” Harold’s eyes widened “There’s something alive inside” everyone else in the room stood from their desks and looked to the anomaly in horror.

Piercing the breach, the clawed hand ripped through and a large mass spilled forth, it had a long shape it’s flesh similar to the breach red and translucent its skeleton was just barely visible underneath, the squared head reared up and its jaws split away revealing crooked pointed teeth and released an awful agony filled shriek which rattled the windows of the observation room.

A crowd was now gathered behind Harold and Markov all of them looking at the monstrous creature, Harold was frozen his thoughts of changing the world never thought of something like this. Eventually Harold snapped out of his haze and rushed to a phone on the wall he pushed several numbers then placed the receiver to his ear “Security team we need an armed detail in the ISR chamber immediately!” Markov partially heard Harold and suddenly realised that Harold had possible intentions to try and kill the creature. He rushed over to his colleague “What the hell are you doing?!” Harold pointed to the window “Do you see that thing!” Markov’s expression became one of panicked determination “Harold this is the discovery beyond the very thought of human comprehension, a life form from another reality and you want to kill it?!” Harold put the phone down and turned to fully face Markov “We have no idea what that thing is or how dangerous it is, we can’t take the risk!” he headed to the door of the observation room to meet with the security team.

Security at the Halcyon facility was equipped with enough firepower for a small army, the facility and a team of twelve trained officers all of them were gearing up as the alarm continued to ring out and the room gave a small tremor causing a couple of the men to stumble, one of them spoke “Jesus! What kind of test were they doing?” another shook his head “No clue, maybe that massive machine blew up?” a third grunted “And they need us armed for that?”. The door to the armoury opened and Harold quickly stepped in, the team’s captain looked to the scientist “Dr Emmerich, what is going?” Harold didn’t know how to even start to explain what had happened “It’s unbelievable…I don’t even know what to say” an officer spoke to him whilst tying up his boots “Is the facility under attack?” a shrieking roar rumbled from deep within the building.

Chaos was emerging from the anomaly; the crimson monster was beginning to thrash wildly eventually it spilled out from the tear and crashed down onto the ISR machine. The creature was giving off so much heat that the metal of the collider was warping, its claws tearing through it like it was nothing.

Markov stared down at the sight of the creature, whilst everyone else looked on with horror he had a hidden smile of thrill this was something he never knew he wanted, he whispered to himself “I’m going to change the world” he continued to wonder of the future possibilities of what he wanted to achieve.

The creature was still thrashing around and clawing at itself screaming from the agony it felt from passing through the barrier, its strength was waning, but it needed to move and began to heave itself up onto its legs, although it was already too late, rearing its head up to the air it let out a horrific shrieking roar then collapsed onto the collider.

Moving quickly through the facility their footsteps almost in tune with the rhythmic alarm, Harold led the security team towards the ISR chamber, his thoughts were a jumble of both scientific curiosity but mostly out right terror. They reached one of the large doors that led to the chamber Harold looked to the group of armed guards “Be ready, this is nothing like you’ve encountered before” he swiped his card but the door struggled to open, it made a grinding noise as it slowly moved. Smoke spilled out from the chamber into the hallway, the leader of the team tapped Harold on the shoulder “Stay behind us Sir” he nodded in agreement and let the officers pass by him with rifles at the ready, they moved single file into the smoke.

Harold stood rigid for several moments until the team captain’s voice spoke out “Sir you need to see this” Harold moved into the chamber as the smoke was now thinning out, he made sure to tread carefully over several pieces of metal debris, the smoke had a slight red tint which seemed to be flickering along with a crackling sound that he could feel against his skin making the hairs stand up. A deep, guttural, rhythmic breathing rumbled the air, the smoke cleared and Harold stood looking up in awe of the massive creature that was lying in the twisted ruins of the ISR collider, the red pulsing translucent flesh was now getting darker and becoming more solid. The air buzzed like electricity was just flowing around the chamber it made Harold’s skin tingle as he looked up to the anomaly above him, the tear was a soft glow of shimmering light almost like the surface of water, the edges were a flickering like static on a television.

With a splitting crack the anomaly vanished leaving an eerie silence and the creature motionless, Harold looked at the massive monstrosity the red glowing flesh seemed to faintly flicker like that of the anomaly a possible effect from passing through. Terror should have been taken full control by now, but the will of a scientist had kicked back in, Harold quickly noticed something the flesh of the creature was beginning to darken, the red flesh was hardening into a charcoal black skin almost stone like in appearance, the glow was now only visible in deep cracks in the skin which were along the creature’s back and sides. Harold was stunned by the sudden transformation “What in the world is this thing?” a voice spoke from behind him “This is a new future my friend” Harold turned to see Markov coming in to stand next to him, Harold looked back to the creature “This could be dangerous, look at the damage its caused already” Markov wasn’t so hesitant “But think of the what these means Harold, an entity from a possible alternate reality this alone will change the very heart of the scientific knowledge, we have to leap at the chance” Harold turned and looked at the newly changed creature he was worried, they knew nothing about this creature and what it could be capable of or even if it would survive in this reality “How would we got about with this?” Markov smiled and clapped his hands together “We have unit three that is empty we might be able move it there it should be big enough to keep it contained for study” after thinking it over Harold nodded “We will need something to restrict its movement and some possible form of sedation” Markov smiled again “I’ll get the team working on something right away and get the security to find some form of restraints” he started to walk away and quickly turned back to Harold “This is going to be incredible my friend, we will change the world” Markov left with the security team.

Harold stood looking at the creature then up to the air where the anomaly had been, he remembered something from the story book that he had in his office “Beware the king as he walks amongst the devil’s mirror” he turned and left the chamber, unaware of what chaos would be soon to come and what rage would be unleashed.

The British Museum ‘Natural History’ London, England 1910 It was late during the night and the street lights emanated their warm glow to the night owls who were still wandering around London, the museum would normally be in darkness by this time of night but several lights were still on, something was amiss inside. QUAKE (A Titan Story)

MFD Team Members - Natasha Reynolds: Biologist/Ecologist - Akhila Khatri: Military (Indian Armed Forces) Devarukhkar Favela Rurshan, India Stretching far across the area it was a sea of hand built homes and stalls, corrugated metal and dirt, the town was a massive community of those sadly unable to afford even the less finer luxuries but that still didn’t take away the spirit of the community, everyone was willing to help each other in need and they never felt any poorer for it. Natasha sat in the back of the red jeep as it wound its way through the dirt roads heading towards the favela, she looked at the survey data on her laptop over the past week the area had begun suffering from unusual seismic activity any unusual activity like this was something that the MFD was always eager to investigate in hope that no creatures were involved. Natasha swept the sweat from her brow and retied her hair back into a pony tail to help keep in from getting in her face despite the setting
